5 Best Sci-Fi Movies to Amaze and Enlighten Sci-fi Enthusiast

Science fiction film (or sci-fi film) is a genre that uses speculative, fictional science-based depictions of phenomena that are not fully accepted by mainstream science. The genre has existed since the early years of silent cinema. If you are bored right now, a good sci-fi movie would be quite a great choice to drive away your boredness and you will be driven by the eye-catching and breath-taking plots. Today, I would like to introduce some sci-fi movies that have received huge amount of positive reviews from the audience.

1. Alien

Alien is a 1979 science fiction horror film. Based on a story by O'Bannon and Ronald Shusett, it follows the crew of the commercial space tug Nostromo who encounters the eponymous Alien, a deadly and aggressive extraterrestrial set loose on the ship. It was met with critical acclaim and box office success, winning the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects. It has been consistently praised in the years since its release. And it is considered one of the greatest films of all time.

2. Ready Player One

Ready Player One is a 2018 American science fiction adventure film. The film takes place in 2045, when much of humanity uses the virtual reality software OASIS (Ontologically Anthropocentric Sensory Immersive Simulation) to escape the desolation of the real world. Orphaned teenager Wade Watts (Sheridan) discovers clues to a hidden game within the program that promises the winner full ownership of the OASIS, and joins several allies to try to complete the game before a large company run by businessman Nolan Sorrento (Mendelsohn) can do so.

3. Edge of Tomorrow

Edge of Tomorrow is a 2014 American science fiction action film. The film takes place in a future where most of Europe is invaded by an alien race. Major William Cage, a public relations officer with no combat experience, is forced by his superiors to join a landing operation against the aliens. Though Cage is killed in combat, he finds himself in a time loop that sends him back to the day preceding the battle every time he dies, with some memory of events. Cage teams up with Special Forces warrior Rita Vrataski to improve his fighting skills through the repeated days, while looking for a way to defeat the extraterrestrial invaders.

4. Parasyte

Parasyte is a 2014 Japanese science fantasy action horror film. This film is about mysterious aliens called "Parasites" suddenly begin their invasion when some of them infect humans by entering their brains. One of them attempts to enter the brain of high school student Shinichi Izumi, but resorts to infecting his right hand after failing to bypass his headphones. Thanks to this way of entry, Shinichi retains his human consciousness, unlike the other victims. This movie is divided into 2 parts. It would be interesting to see what happen when the parasite and human are in the same body and how they get along.

5. The Hunger Games

The Hunger Games is an American dystopian science fiction-adventure film. The story takes place in a dystopian post-apocalyptic future in the nation of Panem, where a boy and a girl from each of the nation's 12 Districts is chosen annually as "tributes" and forced to compete in The Hunger Games, an elaborate televised fight to the death. Katniss Everdeen volunteers to take her younger sister's place, and with her district's male tribute, Peeta Mellark, travels to the Capitol to train and compete in the games.
