For most movie enthusiasts, James Cameron
is no strange as a film director and is now one of the most sought-after
directors in Hollywood. He is also well-known for his harshness and perfectionism
on directing movies, which is one of the most important keystones on his
success in movie industry. Today, we are going to introduce some of his
distinguished works for you to appreciate how well Cameron has done in this
field.
1. Titanic
Titanic is a 1997 American epic romance and
disaster film directed, written, co-produced, and co-edited by James Cameron. The
film is based on accounts of the sinking of the RMS Titanic and stars Leonardo
DiCaprio and Kate Winslet as members of different social classes who fall in
love aboard the ship during its ill-fated maiden voyage. Cameron's inspiration
for the film came from his fascination with shipwrecks; he felt a love story
interspersed with the human loss would be essential to convey the emotional
impact of the disaster.
2. Terminator
2: Judgment Day
Terminator 2: Judgment Day is 1991
American science fiction action film. It is the sequel to the 1984 film The
Terminator, as well as the second installment in the Terminator franchise. Terminator
2 follows Sarah Connor and her ten-year-old son John (Furlong) as they are
pursued by a new, more advanced Terminator: the liquid metal, shapeshifting
T-1000, sent back in time to kill John Connor and prevent him from becoming the
leader of the human resistance. A second, less advanced Terminator, stars Arnold
Schwarzenegger, is also sent back in time to protect John. This would be the
one that science-fiction enthusiasts would not want to miss.
3. Avatar
Avatar is a 2009 American epic science
fiction film. The film is set in the mid-22nd century when humans are
colonizing Pandora, a lush habitable moon of a gas giant in the Alpha Centauri
star system, in order to mine the mineral unobtanium, a room-temperature
superconductor. The expansion of the mining colony threatens the continued
existence of a local tribe of Na'vi – a humanoid species indigenous to Pandora.
The film's title refers to a genetically engineered Na'vi body operated from
the brain of a remotely located human that is used to interact with the natives
of Pandora. Avatar is primarily an action-adventure journey of self-discovery,
in the context of imperialism and deep ecology.s Cameron said his inspiration
was "every single science fiction book I read as a kid".
4. Alita:
Battle Angel
Alita: Battle Angel is a 2019 American
cyberpunk action film based on the 1990s Japanese manga series Battle Angel
Alita by Yukito Kishiro. Alita is a cyborg who awakens in a new body with no
memory of her past, so she sets out to uncover her destiny. It received mixed
reviews, with praise for Salazar's performance, the action scenes, and the
visual effects, but also criticism for the screenplay.[6] The film received
positive responses from audiences.
5. The
Abyss
The Abyss is a 1989 American science
fiction film. When an American submarine sinks in the Caribbean, the U.S.
search and recovery team works with an oil platform crew, racing against Soviet
vessels to recover the boat. Deep in the ocean, they encounter something
unexpected. The critical consensus of Rotten Tomatoes states: “The utterly
gorgeous special effects frequently overshadow the fact that The Abyss is also
a totally gripping, claustrophobic thriller, complete with an interesting crew
of characters.”
